Hi there!
Hi there! I'm David Ybarra, an actor based out of Boise, Idaho. I started acting at Carroll College in Helena, Montana my freshman year after seeing my roommate in Clue the Musical, Carroll's first production that fall. After watching the show 4 times, I decided that maybe theater was something I wanted to pursue. After that fateful decision, I went on to participate in every Carroll show during my time there, whether it be as an actor, stage carpenter, stage manager, or director. One of my notable shows during this time period was as Tim Algood in Noises Off, which was where I found my love of comedic acting. In addition to being primarily an actor, I was also a lead stage carpenter for the theater department, which led to me basically living in the theater as a full time job. I graduated from Carroll College with a major in Theatre Arts in 2017
Following graduation, I decided to stay in Helena an extra year to continue working with the theater community that I had come to love and know, adding a few more theater credits to my resume, as well as some short film credits. I was also given the opportunity to participate in a week long masterclass in New York with the Open Jar Institute, which helped add more wood the fire that was my love of theater. I was also able to work with Grandstreet Theatre, which I still look fondly on as some of the best times that I have had so far in my theater experience. This year was one of the most important years for me because I was given a few roles that helped develop my skills as an actor. The first was the role of Rulon Stacey and the Baptist Minister in The Laramie Project, which were roles that completely went against everything I had done up to that point as a comedic focused actor. The second role was as King Triton in the Little Mermaid, which, other than an awesome costume that helped me truly feel like the King of the Sea, also helped grow my confidence at being a musical actor.
In the summer of 2018, I decided that it was time for me to move back to Boise after the run of Newsies at Grandstreet had closed. Upon my return to my hometown, I immediately began searching for any and all theaters and theater companies that were in the area. Over the past year, I have been cast in a total of 4 shows in the Boise area, and I have no plans of stopping any time soon!
